High Park Zoo Llama Wool Sale, Saturday, April 27, 2024
Each spring or so, the llamas at High Park Zoo are sheared. This provides good ventilation and helps the llamas avoid heat stroke during Toronto’s hot summer months. By the time fall comes around, they will have a pretty good coat to keep them warm in the winter.
The process to take the sheared fleece from the llamas and turn it into wool in Ontario’s mills is proudly undertaken by Friends of High Park Zoo.
This year we have approximately 130 skeins of llama, mixed with merino or sheep’s wool, up for sale. Skeins will be marked. This is an avid knitter’s dream! To possess bespoke yarn from our beloved local Zoo. Each skein is 100 grams of 3 ply worsted weight, which is about enough to knit some cozy mitts, toast socks or a warm hat. The colours are the colours of our llamas; all shades of tan, brown and grey from Jet, Stardust, Honey, Lima, Arianna, Jazz, Tango, Chiquita and Luna.
The price per skein is $50 (cash only) with a limit of four per customer.
The wool goes on sale on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10-12 or until supplies last at Ruffins Pet Store, 2299 Bloor Street West, in the heart of Bloor West Village.
The wool sells out early, so don’t miss out on this unique opportunity.
